Itinerary

Your day begins at No. 18 Hotel in Fort Kochi, where you meet your guide and receive a short safety briefing before starting the ride. The cycling distance covers approximately 34 km (21 miles) at a relaxed pace, suitable for beginners and recreational riders.

Begin pedaling through the colonial quarter of Fort Kochi, passing landmarks such as Santa Cruz Basilica and St. Francis Church, where Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama was originally buried. Your guide shares stories of Kochi’s maritime history and spice trade significance. Continue toward the waterfront to observe local fishermen operating traditional Chinese fishing nets.

The route then moves away from tourist streets into quieter coastal roads lined with coconut palms. Stop at local beaches, fish auction points and prawn-peeling units that form the backbone of Kochi’s fishing economy. These stops offer insight into the livelihoods of coastal communities. If time permits, a short visit to a local toddy bar can be arranged (at personal expense).

As you approach Ezhupunna village near the Kerala backwaters, the setting becomes increasingly rural. Here you are welcomed by a local family for a traditional fisherman’s lunch. Freshly fried fish, regional curries and Kerala-style preparations are served while your guide facilitates conversation and interaction with villagers.
In the afternoon, park your bicycles and board a canoe or shikara (covered wooden rowboat) for a serene cruise through narrow backwater canals. The slow-moving boat passes through lush vegetation, paddy fields and waterside homes, offering a peaceful contrast to the morning ride.

After the cruise, resume cycling toward Kochi, stopping at prawn farms and the Kumbalangi fishing hamlet, recognized as India’s first model eco-tourism village. Fishermen casting nets and traditional Chinese fishing structures create ideal photographic opportunities.
The tour concludes back in Fort Kochi in the late afternoon or early evening.
